the late santi santamaria

a short note from the man..

menu for tonight's dinner that left me speechless:

we start with some scallops and prawns. clean, fresh, makes you look forward to #2.

absolute favourite of mine, the foie gras terrine was paired with inniskillin icewine oak aged vidal 2006. divine pairing.

ocean trout "mi cuit", i learnt sth new tonight from Marco; "Mi Cuit" is a method of cooking, lay man's term: Partial cooking. detailed explaination can be found here: http://www.gourmetfoodstore.com/foiegras/micuit-foie-gras.asp

wild mushroom cocotte

smoked duck magret, story was that the ducks went up very high on the hills and they exercise and eat only the best grass.. sth like tt, i cannot catch his accent and i cannot put his story into place, since he told us during this course, i naturally...assumed.

ice lemon tea. reminds me of pierside's chef robin, brilliant use of ginger and pineapple, just the right amount of acidity in the inniskillin icewine riesling 2007 to bring out the punch of the ginger. also, my favourite glass of the evening. i begged, BEGGED for another.

chocolate textures, Chef _____(forgot his name, and he's so friendly!!!!opps :X) rendition of a black forest cake is ingenious! Beef's favourite rachel Zoe: "I DIE!"

ended with a camomile tea as my nightcap and petit fours, the one 2nd from the right(of the picture) has salt grains in it, dont be fooled by its "ferrero-exterior"..

16 feb 2011, Santi Santamaria passed away. we had a chat with the guy who carried him to the ambulance. he described him as "bringing brightness us (the staff at the restaurantt); sounds like a great man, pity. I am so honoured to be able to taste the finest of what Santi's kitchen has to deliver and glad to be able to keep one of his covers, personally signed by the man, definitely keeping it for memory sake.

Service at Santi's flawless. love the service staff, will die for the food. must try once in your life time. at least.

how many

can shout "FREEDOM" and mean it, FEEL it the way i do?

always envy those Chanels/LVs/Vivienne Westwood I see around women, but now I envy the state I'm in. Soaking up the wholesomeness of it all. Like an antique rocking chair; been out there, rocking everybody's world, simultaneously rocking myself. We've been up, we've been down and we even stopped, only to start again.

Right now, the rocking chair's just stopped, waiting for the next push to rock again.

Recent happenings, (I still cant share one piece of info..need to wait for further instructions...), so here's some rainbow among the grey clouds(G's not even worthy to be dark):
i <3 kite flying

@Mozza, MBS. this place is impossible to talk;noisy. but pizza's yummy. and no, i still dont eat chicken heart/liver or any, i just dont have the GUTS :P
,

mum went to hospital.. and subsequently dad's left eye almost couldnt see ever. scary month for the family..

the day we walked from my place to MBS(we still got the burger bench on our list to try!)

@ The Plain: overhyped, overpriced. heavenly combo :(

meal that cost a bomb. happy moments, didnt last. at all.

Happy Anniversare@Morton's

Jay and Friends Concert was boring. didnt expect much, so wasnt disappointed.

royston plays the er-hu

before i begin today's entry.. i wanna shout that 'I've played er-hu!!!!!first time today!!!! damn cool. $520 cobra and supreme quality wood, no less."

went to chinatown to collect the bf's and Randall's cheong sam. The American looked damn good in the outfit surprisingly. Very well-mannered and gentlemanly 24-yr-old. reminds me of the bf when I just knew him.. a little reserved, not very outspoken, talks in a very composed manner.

after a few photos at both the owner's shop, we went for guo tie and nong hiang snacks...no pics as we devoured the food in 15 mins. moving onto staring at random mop-sellers and shoe repair men.. the 2 visiting fellas spontaneously agreed to my crazy idea of foot reflexology, "shall we proceed for a massage before tea?" and their nods brought us into 4 comfortable arm chairs and an exciting experience. Christophe's face was epic. "OUCCCHHH!!!!" lol... he said there's no feet massage in Paris, pause.....only spas. uh..the high life.

we then went to the temple, for ya si to take more tourists shots and finally went to the coolest place in singapore. thought abt being selfish and keeping the place serene( in singapore, 2011, i need more of these places to myself..) but i shall share it, "tea chapter" is where i wanna be everyday after work.

zen. understatement. 3 types of tea, for $20(superior tie guan yin)+$15(peony jade, a type of white tea)+$8 (pu-er)+$7 dinner set B(2 dumplings, 2 siew mais, 1 lotus rice,1 camomile jelly)..so the 6 of us spent a total of $102.

That makes today wonderful outing in Chinatown a worthy $37 per person! better than buying those Groupon crap. Thanks baby, christophe, randall, royston, emilyn for making my sunday a lovely one. Looking forward to tmr's chinese garden shoot and museum!

Scared the shit out of me

I returned home from work(btw, its kinda freaky; i dunno why but just tt day i felt a strong urge to cab home.(i usually dont since i always hallucinate notes as clothes/bags/shoes, basically, wont spend on cab cos i love shopping) and i found my mum lying in our living room. froze at the doorstep and keep screaming "mummy!". i was really scared out of my wits, and when i got to hold her, i felt her body cold and wet and she gave me a blank stare. i thought i lost her. i immd rang my dad. luckily my grandparents came over and brought her to the hospital. i realise how useless i am, i only know 995 and 999. I dunno anything abt insurance claim/medical fees/registration. A million application forms and 3 different docs attended to her. Neuro/Cardio and her primary doc.

Mummy- i said i'll bring her to Marche 5 years back til now, although we dont mention it and i'm guessing she's already forgotten this, it stuck me that i shdnt be making empty promises to anyone. what if i dont have the luxury of taking for granted time is on my side. not done this year, the next i'll have the opportunity. the bravest woman i know, i cant believe her body underwent so many ops before and the pain she endured time and time again. i broke down in tears countless times, but she will fight back her tears til she really cannot take it anymore. a lot of ppl are drawn to her and love her so much because of her strong character. she can be back to do housework the last time she had an op for slip-disc. i remember PSLE and OLEVEL's YEAR, my first 2 impt hurdles in life, she'd always held it against herself that i could have done better if she was there to guide me. not that i did badly, but she just felt bad not being able to be there for me and the attention that i would have needed were all turned to her.I really need to let her know that I've never once blamed her and wouldnt even think, it's silly to think that she owed me anything. the fact that u raised me and u gave birth to me, i owe u anytime and everytime.

Get well soon. been so long since we went shopping/high-tea and spend an entire day out tgt. I want u to be healthy and hang out with me for another 30-40 years.

Many thoughts. Most calls for action. I better get started. procrastination kills.

Moving on...
10 mins walk from my place, 1st stop, The Plain. I left feeling cheated(yet again). silly bloggers, no actually silly me, shd be more discerning.

Nevertheless, run of the mill "minimalist/wannabe cafe; food's alright, coffee's over-hyped. After the first sip and i called bluff!

walked al the way to MBS Todai, best buffet in singapore i believe. Fresh sashimi, flawless Alaskan King crab, ohhh emm geee the size of the legssss!!!

We are nearing 2nd Sept, 2009,2010,2011, 3 years?
I wanna post USS pics next.

I love shopping

I feel so under-travelled.

I really need to lose weight. by that, i mean a drastic -10kg. Or else i will be damn unhappy. I wanna be able to buy jeans off the shelf n not have to alter it. ok, short-term goal, -2kg in 2 weeks.

ok, back to being under-travelled.. I wanna go Japan, States, Korea, Europe, Egypt, Dubai, Maldives, Vietnam. ARGH.

BBQ @thebeacon, Tryston's birthday, food cookin' so damn slow, ate beehoon and went up to see his place, SMALL LIKE PEA. 1.5mil! other that the location, i would say its so effin' not worth it! His parents as usual friendly and nice. his grandparents even more hospitable, grandma wanted to make me her daughter-on-law, "so pretty ah u... too bad i dont have a 3rd son(both are married).. hahaha.." she damn sweet.

only thing im happy abt recently: i bought clothes!

Dinner @Mozza Pizzeria MBS

LOVE the TABLE SETTING. am reminded of the expensive papers I buy from wheellock/raffles city art and craft shops. insane prices u wont believe! referring to the "mat" in front of each diner. it shows u the hand signs of italians(nv fail to crack me up, reminded of Beppe too! LOL. "CAZZO"

ricotta in some kinda veg( cross between zucchni and eggplant) quite nice, then again, anything deep fried is always quite nice.

chicken liver buscetta(can never spell this correctly) and i DISLIKE any form of gizzards.. YUCK.

mushroom and cheese pizza's DAMN GOOD. meatballs one was run of the mill.

Dessert's a joke. asked the waitress for sth sweet/recommend the best, came this ultra savory nasi lemak-ish caramel marshmellow mushed up platter. WTF. to be fair, gelato-melon flavour only was inspiring. by that, i meant it made me want to take another bite of the nasi lemak. :S

Bday prezzie! Baked with love+mascara+liquid eyeliner. love the names---naughty and haught lash

drama mama

The night we frozed our boss' heart. 4 of us (my team) ordered and played and ordered and omfg, the bill came up to about 100 per person and the table overflowed. this was when we realise, its not funny anymore. however, after tt night, i believed we grew stronger. we discussed plans on savaging the situation and all. blessing in disguise. and i cant believe I'm saying this, I have a great leader. Boss seems too alien. He's like a father, big bro, somehow, "your daddy" (with sexual connotation to it in the beginning has turned into "daddy teo". sometimes, no matter how mature ppl think i am, silly moments i allow myself to indulge in, shows that I'm not that grown up. still a million miles to go.

Had a couple of Sangria(only red for me, not very adventurous, I always go with my fav to be safe and not to kill appetite for dinner) and tapas at Sabio. GM there quite friendly, the bf shared his bottle of yummy red with him. Then we adjourned across the street, Duxton hill's so near my place but this is my first time exploring this cozy stretch. The GM(forgot his name) allowed us to bring our sangria over to Le'En, on our way there, i swear everyone thought we were alcoholics. bottle of red in hand, balancing glasses of sangria in the other.

My steak. wonderful night at Le-Entrecote Bistro.

Royston(German-speaking singaporean)

The cute french man

the bf(singaporean), Father(canadian), visiting friend(american)

My attempt of an "adult hair-do" reflected in this pic, EPIC FAIL. LOL...but it was heart-warming at his cousin's wedding dinner .

At this ulu place called "fork and chopsticks"

Wasabe prawns were memorable. the rest, not worth driving up to thomson..luckily we had VIP room;karaoke and private space with "chandeliers".

Kite Flying with the bf's parents.

The kite's about my height, 160cm.
